Additional Learner Needs Team: Supporting every learner to thrive

At t2 group, our Additional Learning Needs (ALN) team is at the heart of making learning accessible for every Apprentice.

Last year, we worked with 4,700 Apprentices across 2,500 employer organisations. Nearly half of those learners benefited from personalised guidance and support from our Additional Learning Needs (ALN) team, helping them to develop skills, grow confidence, and achieve their career goals.

National Apprenticeship Week’s theme, Skills for Life, celebrates the way Apprenticeships give people the knowledge, skills, and confidence to succeed.

Our Additional Learning Needs (ALN) team ensures every learner can take full advantage of these opportunities. We work closely with learners, coaches, and employers to provide personalised support that helps Apprentices thrive in the workplace and reach their potential.

Support from our ALN team includes:

  • Individualised Learning Plans, tailored to each learner’s needs and goals
  • Adaptive learning content through our digital platform, iLearn
  • ALN assessments and personalised cognitive support via Cognassist
  • Wellbeing check-ins, coaching, and safeguarding support
  • Clear progression pathways, from Level 2 up to Level 5

A day in the life of our Additional Learning Needs Manager, Lisa Lawson

No two days are ever the same in my role, and that’s the exciting part of working at the heart of the ALN team.

A typical day usually starts with a check in with my ALN tutors, where we review priorities and positive reflections from the week. We also link in with t2 coaches and trainers who may need extra support for their learners, offering guidance to ensure learners stay on track and continue to progress.

This support often includes reviewing learner reports and cognitive profiles, and helping to put reasonable adjustments and delivery adaptations in place. These conversations are a key part of making sure learners receive the right support at the right time.

Speaking directly with learners is one of the most rewarding parts of my role. Celebrating strengths and successes is always inspiring, especially as learning differences can sometimes affect confidence and self-esteem. The ALN team works closely with learners to build confidence, reduce barriers, and support them to succeed in their Apprenticeship.
